CHALLENGE
When I joined this project in 2021, RTI Merge was a cutting-edge machine learning platform that did not have an interface yet, it was all ideas. True to it's nature as an integration platform, RTI Merge was meant to house six different open-source tools. This meant mulitple windows, multiple workflows, users jumping in and out of tools and even through different workflow "states". It needed to support data ingestion, modeling and generation. It was/is COMPLEX! I would love to show you sketchings of my brainstorming.
APPROACH
Multiple meetings and a plyphery of questions helped me begin to comprehend the vision and capture requirements. Because it's user-base was so highly technical I interviewed many different types of developers. To establish clarity early on, I developed a shared glossary of terms to ensure consistency. From there, I began mapping and sketching guided workflows—starting with installation and data population, onto dataset manipulation and generated results. Due to the proprietary nature of the platform,
RESULT
I’ve rarely experienced a more aligned and rewarding partnership with a client. They trusted me to lead discovery and systems-thinking sessions, facilitating deep, cross-functional collaboration that helped bring their technical vision to life. The engagement resonated beyond the initial scope—architects were highly complimentary, and the work led to multiple follow-on collaborations. Due to the proprietary nature of the product, I’m unable to share final screenshots. Instead, I’ve included prototypes and supporting materials I created that reflect the brand, product vision, and RTI Merge–driven insights. Designing this from the ground up has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career—and it’s a project I’m always excited to discuss.
